Now available for Kindle!

Big news! Why Can’t Somebody Just Die Around Here? is now available in Kindle format!

You can now read Gerhard’s book as an ebook on your Kindle reader, or any other device that has the Kindle app (iOS and Android devices).

While it is nice to cozy up by a fire and read a hefty paper book, it is a bit more challenging to lug one around on vacation or other travels. And Gerhard is now offering the ebook version for international sales, as well, since “shipping” is much more reasonable (i.e., free) for ebooks.

Get the Kindle version of Why Can’t Somebody Just Die Around Here? from Amazon, or put your hands on a good old physical book either directly from Gerhard himself or on Amazon.com.

Author Talk: Pickaway County Library

What a breathtaking and inspiring story [my high school German teacher] and his family went through, and I would suggest everyone to hear him speak or read his book. -Matthew Berger

[Gerhard’s] story is very much the same as my father’s, and the same of many currently who are trying to come here to build a better life for their children. Check out his book, “Why Can’t Someone Just Die Around Here?” to better understand the atrocities of war, disease, food insecurity, and a mother’s love for her children. -Jennifer Hutchinson

Author Talk: Old North High Club

Last week I had the opportunity to tell my story to members of the Old North High Club. All of them, including me, are graduates of the long closed Columbus North High School. The pictures don’t show the audience so you’ll have to take my word for it that 60-70 people were in attendance. As you can see, there is proof of a book signing afterward!

Books make great Christmas gifts! Hint hint!

apple_peel

Give your friends and family a really cool Christmas gift – a copy of my book! Below is an excerpt describing our Christmas in 1945. Christmas for your friends and family will be much better than ours was, especially if you give them my book!

Christmas 1945

My brother remembers that Christmas:

“The Christmas gift that year was part of an apple. Grandfather Josef Maurer peeled the apple with a knife. The peel was an unbroken spiral. My brother and I got to eat the peel. We also ate a little bit of the apple and ate the core. We ate the entire core, including seeds, but we did not eat the stem.”

You can make someone happy and purchase a gift copy here.

For those who have not read the book and wonder about the unusual title, the story behind the title is explained here.
